Born around 1685 in Ireland as Edward Seegar, he later took the name Edward England and embarked on a life of piracy. Originally an officer, he turned pirate after being captured and earning the trust of his captors. His career flourished during the Golden Age of Piracy (1690–1720) but ended when his own crew marooned him and a few others on the island of Mauritius. After months stranded, they built a makeshift boat and reached Madagascar. His ultimate fate remains unknown, but he likely died in poverty as the Royal Navy tightened its grip on the region, making the seas safer for merchants.
